Reduced Downtime Maintenance Chainsaw class:

David Jenney and Mike Maines will be hosting a chainsaw training class Saturday June 4th starting at 9:00am. In case of bad weather the class will be moved to Saturday June 11th. The class will take place at David Jenney's woodlot in Vassalboro. Mike Maines, a Certified Logging Professional since 1994 and a Licensed Professional Forester, will be the instructor.

This class will focus on Reduced Downtime Maintenance and filing. Topics covered include personal protective equipment, chainsaw safety features, filing, carburetor adjustment and the maintenance and care of your chainsaw. If there is time we will also go out in the field and have each person fell a tree. While you do not have to bring your chainsaw with you, it makes sense to bring one so you can apply what you are learning to your own saw. The cost for the class will be $75 with a minimum of 7 people required for the class to take place. Advance registration and payment is required. Please contact David Jenney at or (207) 923- 3483 if you plan to attend. The class will have a minimum of 7 participants and a maximum of 12 participants.

Please make checks out to Mike Maines, and mail to:

David Jenney

Vassalboro Maine 04989

prior to the class, to make sure that you have a spot and are registered.

You will need to bring your chainsaw along with personal protective equipment (head, eye, ear protection), steel toe boots, chaps - or safety pants. If you do not bring the required personal protective equipment you will not be able to participate, and every participant must sign a release form.

Please bring the following for the class:

1.) Protective head gear. This should include protection for head, ears, and face. Here is an example of proper head gear:

2.) Chaps of chainsaw pants: Here are a couple of examples:

and pants:

3.) Foot protection - chainsaw boots, at a minimum boots with a steel toe, Here is an example:

You should also bring food and water for lunch. In addition, please dress for the weather as you will be outside all day. Based on the weather there may be black flies, or other insects, so you may want to bring your favorite means of providing some bug protection and also sunscreen in case we have sun.

You do not need to bring a chainsaw as there will be chainsaws on site. However, you are certainly welcome to bring your own saw if you'd like to use it. Mike will be providing saws to work with. Parking will be in the field adjacent to my woodlot.

The training class on May 14th, 2011 will be at this woodlot. Here is a google map to my woodlot where the class will be held:
